A lone figure performs phrases of movement through various natural/built environments. These somatic explorations document the sensing body, organizing itself through space. As the environments and the figure’s gestures constantly change, the moving architecture of the body becomes the reliable point of reference. An array of movements and compositions posit the body as a site of both temporality and constancy. Negotiating between these modalities, the body creates a space for contradictions to coexist without conflict. The insertion of a moving figure into a landscape opens up a new perspective of scale. The scale of place, space, and time are issues that the body / landscape relationship address. Landscape positions the body as an event, unfolding through space. So when viewed as perpetual change, time is phenomena that the body inherently sustains. Through movement, the human form offers a sense of stability and stimulates awareness of space and place.
